This feature notifies you right away on screen or through your browser when a new notification arrives in ZEP.
Follow the guide below to receive notifications for announcements, direct messages, gifts, and pokes in the space you are currently using.
You must allow notifications in all three places for notifications to work properly.

For the best experience, we recommend using Chrome.
When you access ZEP for the first time, a notification permission pop-up will appear at the top of your browser.
Click Allow.
If you click Block, you will need to manually change the permission to Allow in your browser settings.
Open a ZEP space and click the icon on the left side of the address bar.
Allow notifications, then refresh the space.
How to Allow Notifications in Chrome Settings
Enter chrome://settings/content/notifications in the address bar → Click Add in the “Allowed to send notifications” section → Enter zep.us → Click Add.
If You Previously Clicked “Block”
If you blocked notifications before, the permission pop-up will not appear again. Follow the steps below to allow notifications manually.
Enter
chrome://settings/content/notificationsin the address bar.Find the ZEP address in the Blocked list.
Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the right → Change it to Allow.
Refresh the ZEP tab using F5 or
Cmd + R.
Even if notifications are allowed in your browser, you will not receive notifications if system notifications are turned off.
Go to System Settings > Notifications > Select your browser, such as Chrome.
Turn on Allow Notifications and allow notifications in Notification Center.
Check Focus Mode
If Focus Mode is turned on in macOS, notifications may be blocked. Turn off Focus Mode from Control Center, or go to System Settings → Focus and add your browser as an allowed app.
Go to Settings using
Win + Ior Start → Settings > System > Notifications.Find your browser under “Notifications from apps and other senders.”
Turn on notifications for your browser.
Note
Chrome notification sounds and ZEP direct message sounds may overlap.
Check Do Not Disturb
On Windows 11, notifications may be blocked if Do Not Disturb is turned on. Go to Settings → System → Notifications and turn off Do Not Disturb.
Go to Settings > Notifications.
Receive new notifications instantly: Get notified right away on screen or through your browser when a new notification arrives. Even if you turn off this setting, notifications will still appear in the notification center.
Sound: Play a sound for notifications. If you do not hear anything, allow sound for this site in your browser.
Notification activity: You can turn the following notification types on or off individually:
Announcements
Direct messages
Gifts
Pokes
Users who are not logged in can only receive announcement notifications.
ZEP notification settings are only available on PC.
If a toggle is disabled or gray, notifications are currently turned off. Please follow the steps above to allow notifications.
Q: I turned on notifications, but I’m still not receiving them.
A: Notifications must be enabled in both the browser and the OS system. It won't work if only one is on.
Mac: Check System Settings → Notifications → [Browser] → Allow Notifications.
Windows: Check Settings → System → Notifications → [Browser] toggle.
Q: The notification toggle is grayed out.
A: This means the ZEP site is blocked in your browser. Please allow ZEP via the address bar icon or chrome://settings/content/notifications, then refresh the tab.
Q: I can't click the Sound toggle.
A: You must turn on the "Browser Notification" toggle first for the Sound setting to activate. Please follow the order: Browser Notification ON → Sound ON.
Q: It worked at first, but suddenly stopped.
A: Please check if Focus Mode/Do Not Disturb is active.
Mac: Control Center (◎) in the top right menu bar → Disable Focus.
Windows: Notification Center → Turn off Do Not Disturb.
Q: Other sites work, but only ZEP doesn’t.
A: ZEP might be individually blocked. Click the address bar icon and check if Notifications are set to 'Allow'.
Q: The banner appears, but there is no sound.
A: Check two things: Ensure the Sound toggle in the ZEP app is ON, and check if your computer's master volume is muted.
Q: I changed the settings, but they haven't been applied.
A: You must refresh the ZEP tab after changing browser notification settings for them to take effect.
Q: I'm using a company computer and can't change notification settings.
A: This may be due to IT security or Group Policies. Please contact your IT administrator to request browser notification permissions.
