Our team chat provides a centralized location where you can view all files and links that have been shared. These files and links are securely stored for an indefinite period of time and are accessible to new members who join the team.

The maximum file size for a single transfer is 1GB, and there is a 5-minute upload limit after each transfer.

Easily search for chat history using filters such as messages, chats, authors, and dates. (→ Learn how to search chat history)

Find and join public group chats in your company channel. When you create a chat, you can set it as public or private.

Private groups can’t be seen on search, you can only see the ones that you are invited to. You can join private groups by invitation only.

You can change the public/private group settings at any time by clicking the [••• button] - [Group settings] after creation.

Team Chat Sections allow you to categorize and organize your list of group chats and direct messages. You can manage multiple group chats and direct messages within one section. Create private sections visible only to you for easy organization of your most-used chats.

Useful Information

Here are some helpful tips:

  • Notification Badges:

When a section is collapsed, the number of new messages in its chats is shown as notification badges. Only chats with notifications set to show message counts are included in this total. (→ Group Notification Guide)

  • Team Meetings in Progress Status Icon:

If there is an ongoing Team Meet in a collapsed section, it will show the sound wave icon.

  • You can create sections, reorder, delete, and move chats on both Desktop and mobile. Changes are synced across all devices.

You can check the threads you participated in in the order of the latest notifications. You will see the name of the group at the top, and the contents and comments are displayed at the bottom.

  1. Recent Activity: Displays the threads you've participated in, ordered by the most recent notifications.

  2. Group Name: At the top, you'll see the name of the group where the thread is located.

  3. Content and Updates: At the bottom, you can view the thread content, new additions, and replies.

  4. Sharing Comments: If a thread is important to you, click "Also send to the chat room" to share your comment directly to the chat.

  5. Tagging: Use the @all tag to notify everyone in the thread.

  6. Thread Controls:

    • In the top right corner, you can set thread-specific notifications.

    • See who's joined the thread.

    • Leave the thread when you're done.

If only a simple response is needed, no problem! Just use reaction emoji on any message. Every message has a limit of 300 reactions maximum.

Side view allows you to split your focus on work content. It enables you to go into threads and other content without having to click through multiple pages. All you need to do is click ”the link shared” in the message.

This is a powerful feature that lets you click on a link shared in a message and view to items on one screen.

  • You can jump directly to the corresponding live chat (user chat) or team chat by clicking the arrows.

  • Send messages directly from the side view.

  • The [More] button lets you assign a manager to a user chat, change their status, add followers, and more.

On your profile, you can change your current status and communicate to your team exactly what you are doing.

  • How-To: [Preference] - [Status Setting]

  • Default status provided are:

    • In a meeting

    • Commuting

    • Working remotely

    • On vacation

  • You can create up to 8 status templates.

  • If you register a custom status, the default recommended status will disappear.

  • You can add or delete states, and specify the duration your state.

A team member left, why can I still see their direct messages?

Since there's a possibility of containing important information you've discussed with your team member through direct messages, Channel Talk does not immediately purge user-related chats when the team member leaves the channel. After saving all important information in direct messages, you can delete the direct messages by going to the [••• button] in the top right corner and click the [leave chat].

Can I reset the previous chat history?

Currently, we do not support resetting previous chat history. If you do not want a specific conversation to be shown, a team member who sent the message needs to manually delete it.

I want only certain team members to join a group chat.

Using Channel Talk’s private group chat feature you can make sure that only those who have invite links can participate.

What is an "All" group chat? Is it possible to kick some members out?

An "All" group chat is automatically created when the channel is made. This is your channel’s ‘front door’ for new members. You cannot remove any members from this group chat, so we suggest using it as a notice board for your team members!
