5. Plans & SP Usage

Hi there! Let's clear up two things in one go: which plan to pick, and what on earth SP actually gets used for. It's simpler than it looks, so settle in and read at your own pace.

Here's the whole thing in a single line: chatting with the Default model is unlimited on every plan. That means even if your SP hits zero, or you blow through your entire weekly premium allowance, your conversation will never get cut off. SP only comes into play when you reach for the "extras" — a smarter model, a longer reply, image generation, and the like.

Good to know (NEVER HARD-LOCKED): StoryChat never locks your conversation. When your premium allowance or SP runs dry, you automatically keep chatting on the free Default model. Not paying doesn't make your character go quiet on you.

A lot of people mix up plans and SP, but it clicks once you split it like this:

  • Plans (Free / Silver / Gold / Platinum) = your monthly subscription. They decide your "baseline perks": response speed, default memory size, number of personas, ad removal, your weekly premium allowance, and so on.

  • SP (Story Points) = think of it like a rechargeable transit card. Once you load it up, it never expires — it just sits there until you use a premium model beyond your weekly allowance, or tap an extra feature like image generation.

In short: your plan is a "season pass" that refills every month, and SP is a "stored balance" that never drains on its own. The two work hand in hand.

There are four plans. Choose yearly billing and the monthly equivalent gets cheaper.

Tip: If you're new, Free is more than enough to look around. The moment you catch yourself thinking "I want to use premium models more often," that's when most people upgrade to Gold. The reason Gold is the Best value comes down to those daily free image and Mood Snap counts that keep rolling in.

For the numbers lovers, here's everything laid out. If you just want the highlights, the bolded rows are all you really need.

Lorebook (entries per character)

100

Good to know: Lorebook entries are tiered: Free and Silver get up to 5 per character, while Gold and Platinum unlock up to 100. Everyone — Free included — can use Lorebook, and it costs no SP on any plan. Upgrade to Gold (or Platinum) when you want far more lore room. [Related: Lorebook]

This is our most-asked question. Let's start with an analogy.

Think of it this way: Your weekly premium allowance is like a stack of "buffet tickets" that refills every week. While you've got tickets, you can enjoy the smarter premium models at no extra cost. Once your tickets run out, you keep going by paying with SP — your "cash." And even if both your tickets and your cash are gone, the free Default model — the "house menu" — is always open.

In the table, the allowance is written as relative multiples like Standard / 5x / 20x. That's on purpose.

  • Silver = one helping of Standard

  • Gold = 5x Standard

  • Platinum = 20x Standard

We don't write it as a fixed SP number because the actual consumption depends on your settings (see "How much SP does one message use?" below). So the accurate way to read it is: "Gold can use premium models roughly 5x more comfortably than Silver."

Common misconception: "Gold means I get all models unlimited" is not true. The only thing that's unlimited is the Default model. Premium models run on your weekly allowance first, then on SP. But even when your allowance or SP runs out, the chat itself never stops.

Where exactly does SP (Story Points) get spent?

SP is a permanent currency. It never expires, so you can stockpile it at your own pace and spend it when you need it. There are two main places it goes.

1. Using premium models beyond your weekly allowance

When your buffet tickets (weekly allowance) are gone but you want to keep chatting on a premium model, SP is deducted automatically.

2. Using extras

SP charged on Free & Silver only; included in the plan on Gold & Platinum

Tip: Free counts refill every day at midnight. If you're on Gold, there's no need to burn SP topping up your 5 daily free images — waiting until the next day is a thrifty move too.

You pick the reply length yourself, and the cost couldn't be simpler:

  • Short / Medium / Long / Extendedthe length setting is free to choose on every plan. There's no flat fee for going longer

  • The only thing that shifts is the per-message usage cost: a longer reply generates more text, so it may use a bit more SP on that one message

On the free Default model, longer replies still cost nothing — it's unlimited. On premium models, a longer answer simply uses a little more of your weekly allowance or SP. Use Short for light, casual back-and-forth, and go longer for the scenes you really want to sink into — matching the length to the moment is how you keep SP in check. [Related: Response Length]

This is where a lot of people get tripped up, so let me spell it out.

Good to know: SP is deducted only once per message. That means your message + the AI's reply combined count as a single charge. It is not deducted twice — once for your line, once for the AI's.

That said, the heavier your settings, the faster your allowance (or SP) gets used up.

  • The deeper your memory (the bigger your context)

  • The longer the replies you ask for

  • The bigger the character (the longer its description)

In any of these cases, a single message uses more resources. Don't worry, though — the estimated cost shows up on screen before you send, so you can check it and then hit send.

Tip: If you feel like "my SP is draining too fast," try turning the Memory Dial down a notch or switching your reply length to Short. You'll see the drain drop noticeably. [Related: Longer Memory]

The 8K / 16K / 32K / 64K in the table are just defaults. In other words, moving up a plan gives you a bigger starting memory — it's not a ceiling.

If you raise the Memory Dial yourself, you can expand it all the way up to 1M. That's handy when you want your character to remember earlier conversation for longer. Just keep in mind that the bigger your memory, the more resources each message uses. [Related: Longer Memory]

Let's match a plan to your personality.

  • Free — the "let me look around first" type. You get unlimited chat on the Default model, so it's perfect for checking, no strings attached, whether the platform is right for you.

  • Silver — the "no ads, keep it light" type. Ads disappear and speed picks up. You also get 5 free Mood Snaps a day. Great for those who enjoy it steadily, if not constantly.

  • Gold — the "this is just the sensible choice" type . 5 free images a day + 20 Mood Snaps, plus a generous premium allowance. The best bang for your buck for most users.

  • Platinum — the "I want to enjoy every last thing" type. Top speed, the largest default memory, GIF profiles, early access. This is the plan for heavy users who push hard all day long.

Tip: If you're on the fence, odds are good the answer is Gold. The daily free counts alone let you enjoy images and Mood Snaps while barely touching your SP.

  • Default-model chat is unlimited on every plan — your conversation never gets cut off.

  • Plan = a season pass that refills monthly (speed, memory, personas, weekly premium allowance); SP = a never-expiring stored balance (premium overage + extras).

  • Prices: Free $0 · Silver $12 · Gold $25 · Platinum $100 (cheaper with yearly billing).

  • Extras costs: image 300 SP · Mood Snap unlock 50 SP. Setting any response length is free — a longer reply just uses a bit more SP on premium models (Default stays free).

  • Lorebook costs no SP and is open to everyone — Free/Silver up to 5 entries per character, Gold/Platinum up to 100 — and GIF profiles are Platinum-only.

  • SP is deducted once per message, and the estimated cost is always shown before you send.
