Storychat is built for creators. This page explains, in plain terms, what you own, what limited rights we need to run the Services, and what happens when you unpublish or delete. It works together with our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
You own the original characters, stories, and lorebooks you create on Storychat. Creating or publishing content here does not transfer ownership to us. (If something wasn't yours to begin with, posting it here doesn't make it yours — please respect others' intellectual property.)
While your content is published on Storychat, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and promote it solely to operate and provide the Services — for example, showing your character to users who choose to chat with it, and featuring it in places that help people discover content on Storychat.
This license is limited to running the Services. It is not a transfer of ownership, and it is not perpetual or irrevocable.
When you unpublish or delete your content:
We remove it from public discovery (home, search, recommendations, thumbnails).
We detach your name, profile, and identity from it.
To avoid breaking other users' existing, ongoing chats with a character that was public, a de-identified snapshot of that character may be kept for as long as needed to support those existing chats, after which it is removed or fully anonymized. It is not attributed to you, is not kept discoverable as a new character, and is not presented as owned by Storychat.
We retain narrowly limited copies only where necessary for legal obligations, security, backups, and abuse investigations.
We do not keep your public characters active and discoverable after you leave on the grounds that they are "popular" or "important to other users."
We do not sell your content to third parties without your explicit permission, and we do not use your private chats to train generative AI models that serve other users unless you explicitly opt in (see the Privacy Policy).
You're welcome to create fan-inspired characters and scenarios, but you must respect others' intellectual property and our Community Guidelines. We respond to valid intellectual-property complaints and may remove infringing content.
Ownership doesn't exempt content from our rules. We may remove or restrict content that violates our Content & Safety Guidelines or Community Guidelines, regardless of who created it.
