This Privacy Policy explains how PowerFan Inc. d/b/a Storychat ("Storychat," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you access or use our services (the "Services"). By using the Services, you agree to this Privacy Policy. For how cookies and analytics work, see our separate Cookie & Analytics Notice.
Account Information: email, username, password, and the date of birth you provide at sign-up (used to apply age-appropriate settings).
User Content: characters, stories, lorebooks, images, messages, and other media you create or upload.
Usage Data: interactions with the platform (e.g., page views, time spent, scrolls, clicks), session recordings, device type, operating system, and browser (see Section 6 and the Cookie & Analytics Notice).
Payment Information: processed securely by PCI-compliant third-party providers. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.

We use the information we collect to:
Provide, maintain, and improve the Services;
Process payments and manage subscriptions;
Personalize your experience and apply age-appropriate content settings;
Respond to support requests;
Ensure platform security, prevent fraud, and enforce our policies;
Detect and prevent harmful or illegal content, including content that exploits minors;
Analyze usage trends via privacy-masked analytics tools (e.g., Microsoft Clarity, PostHog, Google Analytics);
Send service messages and, where permitted, reminders and product updates (see Section 7A).
We do not sell your personal information, we do not use the content of your private chats for advertising, and we do not use your private chats to train generative AI models that serve other users unless you explicitly opt in. We may process your messages to operate the Services (to generate replies), to keep the platform safe (for example, to detect abuse or prohibited content), to provide support, to comply with law, and to debug and improve the Services.
We may share information with:
Service Providers: vendors who perform services on our behalf (e.g., cloud hosting, customer support, data storage, analytics, content moderation, security, payment processing) under confidentiality agreements.
Analytics & Tracking Partners: Microsoft Clarity, PostHog, Google Analytics, and similar tools, used to understand product usage and fix bugs through cookies, masked session recordings, and heatmaps. See the Cookie & Analytics Notice.
Affiliates: our subsidiaries and corporate affiliates, consistent with this Policy.
Legal or Safety Requirements: where required by law or to protect Storychat, our users, or the public. We report apparent child sexual abuse material (CSAM) to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), which may forward reports to law enforcement, as required by law.
Business Transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or asset sale.
User-Directed Sharing: when you create or interact with public content.
With Consent: when you authorize us to share data with third parties.
We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration, and we do not use private chat content for targeted advertising or knowingly direct targeted advertising to children.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your information; object to or restrict certain processing; opt out of marketing or targeted advertising; withdraw consent at any time; and appeal a decision about your data request.
To exercise these rights, email team@storychat.app or use the in-app request form. We may verify your identity before responding. You can manage cookie/analytics preferences (Section 6), manage email preferences (Section 7A), and we honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by law.
We retain information only as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
If you delete your account or delete/unpublish your content:
We delete or anonymize your personal information within a commercially reasonable period.
Public characters, stories, and lorebooks you remove are taken out of public discovery, and your name, profile, and identity are detached from them.
To avoid breaking other users' existing, ongoing chats, a de-identified snapshot of a previously public character may be kept for as long as needed to support those existing chats, after which it is removed or fully anonymized. This snapshot is not attributed to you, is not shown as a new or discoverable character, and is not presented as owned by Storychat.
We retain narrowly limited information only where required for legal obligations, security, backups, or abuse investigations.

We and our partners use cookies, local storage, pixels, SDKs, and session-recording tools to keep you logged in, save preferences, understand usage, improve the product, and detect fraud.
Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): for visitors in these regions, non-essential analytics (e.g., Microsoft Clarity, PostHog) load only after you consent through our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw consent at any time.
Other regions (incl. the United States): analytics operate on an opt-out basis. You can opt out of Google Analytics with the official Opt-out Add-on, disable cookies in your browser, and we honor GPC where required.

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256), role-based access controls, access logging, and regular security audits. No system is completely secure, and you are responsible for safeguarding your password.
Storychat's AI characters run on our servers. To generate a reply, our systems must process the contents of your messages. Because of this:
Storychat is not end-to-end encrypted. Your messages are encrypted in transit and at rest, but they are not hidden from us the way a Signal or WhatsApp message is. Please do not share information you would not want processed by our systems.
Limited internal access. Access to private chats is restricted to a small number of trained, authorized personnel and is permitted only to investigate a safety or abuse issue, respond to your support request, comply with a legal obligation, or debug a technical incident. Such access is logged and audited. We do not browse your conversations for any other reason.
No ads from chats; no training of others' models without opt-in. We do not use private chat content for targeted advertising, and we do not use it to train generative AI models that serve other users unless you explicitly opt in. We may process it to operate the Services, keep the platform safe, provide support, comply with law, and debug.
We may send you service messages (which are necessary to operate your account) and, where permitted, marketing or re-engagement emails (e.g., reminders and product updates). Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can manage email preferences in settings. In the EEA/UK and other regions that require it, we send marketing emails only with your consent. We do not include the content of your private chats in these emails.
Storychat is headquartered in the United States and may store or process data in the U.S. or other jurisdictions. Where required, we use Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful safeguards.
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services (16 in the EEA/UK, and the applicable minimum age elsewhere). We collect your date of birth at sign-up and use region detection to apply the correct minimum age. Accounts below the minimum age are not permitted, and we do not knowingly collect their data. The Content Sensitivity Filter cannot be disabled by users under 18. If we learn that an underage user has provided personal data, we delete it as required by law.
We may revise this Policy from time to time. We will update the "Effective Date" and notify you of material changes via the Services, email, or other reasonable methods.
