Storychat is committed to providing a safe environment for creative expression. We take the safety of our users seriously and invest in systems, policies, and teams to protect our community.
- Enabled by default for all users
- Users 18 or older may opt in to disable the filter through a two-step confirmation process
- The filter controls visibility of mature-themed creative content (e.g., dark fiction, intense emotional scenarios)
- Pornographic and sexually explicit content is never permitted on Storychat, regardless of filter settings
- Our AI models are built with safety guardrails to prevent generation of prohibited content
- Real-time monitoring detects patterns associated with harmful content
- Crisis resources are displayed when our systems detect potential self-harm situations
- Block: Users can block other users to prevent unwanted interaction
- Report: Users can report any character, story, or message at any time
- Mute: Users can hide specific content from their feed
We use a multi-layered approach to content moderation:

Protecting young users is our highest priority:
- Users under 13 (16 in EEA/UK) are not permitted to use Storychat
- Users under 18 cannot disable the Content Sensitivity Filter
- We maintain zero tolerance for any content that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers minors
- Suspected child exploitation material is reported to NCMEC (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children) and law enforcement
- AI safety boundaries include specific protections against generating content involving minors in harmful scenarios
- We do not sell personal information
- Payment data is processed by PCI-compliant third-party providers
- We use encryption in transit and at rest
