Storychat is committed to a safe environment for creative expression. We invest in systems, policies, and teams to protect our community.
Enabled by default for all users.
Users 18 or older may opt in to disable it through a two-step confirmation. Users under 18 cannot disable it.
In the iOS/Android apps the filter cannot be disabled; mature/NSFW content is web-only and does not appear in the apps regardless of your web settings.
The filter controls visibility of mature-themed creative content. Pornographic content and explicit sexual imagery are never permitted, regardless of filter settings.
Our AI models are built with guardrails to prevent generation of prohibited content.
Real-time monitoring detects patterns associated with harmful content.
Crisis resources are displayed when our systems detect a potential self-harm situation.
Block, Report, Mute — users can block others, report any character/story/message at any time, and hide content from their feed.
We use a multi-layered approach:

Protecting young users is our highest priority:
Users under 13 (16 in the EEA/UK) are not permitted; we collect date of birth at sign-up and apply regional minimums.
Users under 18 cannot disable the Content Sensitivity Filter.
Zero tolerance for any content that sexualizes, exploits, or endangers minors, including AI-generated or fictional depictions.
We detect and remove content that sexualizes minors (including realistic, fictional, animated, or AI-generated depictions), terminate responsible accounts, preserve information as required by law, and report apparent child sexual abuse material to NCMEC, which may forward reports to law enforcement.
AI safety boundaries include specific protections against generating content involving minors in harmful scenarios.
We use encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256).
We are not end-to-end encrypted. Because our AI characters run on our servers, our systems must process your messages to generate replies. Access to private chats is restricted to trained, authorized personnel, is permitted only for safety, abuse, legal, support, or debugging reasons, and is logged and audited.
We do not use private chat content for advertising, and we do not use it to train generative AI models that serve other users unless you explicitly opt in. We may process it to operate, secure, support, and debug the Services.
Consent: in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, non-essential analytics load only after you consent via our cookie banner.

We are committed to transparency and may publish periodic reports on the volume and types of moderation actions, response times for reports, and appeals and their outcomes.
