How to Fix Error Code E16 / E18 (Windows)

When exporting a video, Vrew needs to save the final file to your computer. Error codes E16 and E18 occur when this file-writing step fails.

This usually happens if:

  • There isn’t enough free space on the drive you’re saving to

  • Too many programs are running at the same time, leaving limited system resources

  • The file is being saved to a non-local location, such as an external drive, USB, network drive, or cloud folder

  • Antivirus or security software blocks file creation

  • A temporary system issue interrupts the file-writing process

  • Video export can be affected by many factors, including your settings, assets, and your computer’s available resources at the time. Because of this, a project that fails to export on one computer may succeed on another. Even on the same computer, export results can vary depending on timing and system load.

  • First, save your project and close Vrew completely. Reopen Vrew and try exporting again. If the issue continues, shut down your computer completely, then turn it back on and try exporting once more.

  • Many users report that simply restarting Vrew or rebooting their computer resolves the issue.

  • Click the yellow folder icon [File Explorer] at the bottom of your screen.

  • Select [This PC] from the left menu.

  • Check the available space shown next to each drive.

We recommend having at least 20 GB of free space on the drive you’re saving to.

  • Files may not save reliably if there are connection or access issues.

    • USB drives and external hard drives can disconnect unexpectedly

    • Network drives and cloud folders depend heavily on network stability

For best results, save the file to a folder on your local drive (such as the C: drive).

  • Click the small arrow [^] near the clock in the bottom-right corner of your screen to view background programs.

  • Check whether any antivirus or security software is running (for example, Norton Antivirus, McAfee, or any other shield-shaped icons).

  • In some cases, antivirus software may mistakenly block the video export process. You can try temporarily turning off real-time protection, then attempt the export again.

  • Exporting videos uses a large amount of system resources. If your computer is low on available resources, the export may fail.

  • Close any programs you don’t need at the moment, such as web browsers, media players, and other background applications, then try exporting again.
